About Refuge
How Refuge started
With one empty apartment in 2009. Our story, how we work and who leads us.
Our story
One church, one family, one empty apartment
In 2009, a resettlement agency called Grace Church on Gateway Avenue: a family of five was arriving in three days with three suitcases, and the apartment was empty. Twenty people from the church furnished it in a weekend. Other churches heard about it and asked how they could do the same.
Today we bring relief to families in camps and border towns through local partners, and train church teams to welcome refugee families in cities across the country.
